About/ Bio

eu-pan-am-747-tb I am a freelance project writer and researcher based in Carol Stream, Illinois and a new media veteran since 1998. I have a liberal arts degree from a small midwestern college, and have had a long corporate career (Xerox, AT&T, United Airlines) as an I.T. planner, business analyst, process engineer, tech writer, and project manager.

I am also a Navy combat veteran who served aboard surface ships as an engineer in Mayport, Florida prior to the first Gulf War … and I’m a fanboy of all things flight-related.

While in the military, I flew infrequently as a passenger aboard Lockheed S-3 Vikings, P-3 Orions, and (once) as an edge-sitting guest in a cockpit jumpseat aboard a C-5 Galaxy military transport. Glorious! We raced the setting sun for 10 hours between Rota, Spain and Norfolk, Virginia.

I have occupied the last, broken, middle seat of a 747-400 on a long South African Airways flight between Atlanta and Johannesburg and loved every minute of it.

I am in awe of 1) modern, 200-ton “machines with wings” that can carry their own weight in freight, fuel, and passengers; and 2) the insanely great men and women who fly them.

Even so, I once looked up beneath the landing gear of a parked 747 in San Francisco and told myself that I must have been dreaming the whole time … certainly nothing this big could ever get off the ground!

I am married to the former Graciela Naa Carboo of Accra, Ghana; we have three-year-old triplets (one boy, two girls) and a five-year-old daughter.
