“United Breaks Guitars,” Song 3: Rhapsody in Bluegrass

ubg_logoAs promised, Dave Carroll has released the third and final song of his United Breaks Guitars trilogy. In a special webcast event that happened live last night (recorded & available here; things gets started at about 04:30), Dave introduced the last video and spent another 45 minutes or so telling a more complete, behind-the-scenes story of both his broken Taylor guitar and United Airlines’ profoundly broken customer service organization.

Song 3 of “United Breaks Guitars” to Debut on March 2

Dave Carroll original UBGJust a quick update: The third and last song in Dave Carroll’s United Airlines music video trilogy — “United Breaks Guitars” — will be released to the public on Tuesday, March 2.

Much more information about the song is available directly from Dave himself.

The airline’s Public Relations department is said to be rehearsing comprehensive disaster response operations in anticipation of the song’s release. PR spokesperson Robin Urbanski is reportedly planning a forceful, no-nonsense public statement to be built around the theme “This has struck a nerve with us.”

As always, we will post the video here for our loyal readers as soon as it’s available. ;)

A Dave Carroll/ United Breaks Guitars Update: Song 3, March 2

Dave CarrollWe love Dave Carroll, the executive-embarrassing, guitar-grieving Canadian arts legend and social media stick-in-the-eye to United Airlines. Dave, in such a fun and good-natured way, has so far delivered 2 of 3 well-aimed rocks between the eyes of the past-its-prime corporate Goliath. His stones, of course, would be United Breaks Guitars Songs 1 and 2, which have together garnered almost 8 1/2 million views on youTube thus far. We haven’t caught up with Dave in a while, so an update is definitely in order.

See, here’s the thing about Dave: There is just so much witty irony swirling around every part of his fractured relationship with United Airlines. Ah, yes … witty irony! let’s start there:

“United Breaks Guitars” Goes to Washington

eu-pax-rightsDave Carroll, the baggage-busted, guitar-disrespected Canadian musician and viral archnemesis of United Airlines, has announced that he has been invited to testify before Congress in a September 22 hearing concerning passengers rights.

Dave has not yet released more information than this, but anyone wanting or needing to learn more about his appearance should follow Dave on Twitter. (He also has a Facebook page and a web site.)

I expect that Dave’s testimony will happen before the Senate’s Science, Commerce, and Transportation Committee, in support of S.213, the Airline Passenger Bill of Rights Act of 2009.

C-SPAN publishes the complete Congressional hearings schedules on this page, which includes links to streaming audio of the hearings as well. (As of the date of this post, information about the 9/22 S.213 hearing is not yet available on the C-SPAN site.)

[ As it turns out, Dave Carroll and Jeremy Cooperstock (here and here), are two talented, no-nonsense Canadians who are the bane of United's existence. I have it on good authority that Glenn Tilton, United CEO and magisterial head of the Air Transport Association, is quite concerned about Canadian meddling in U.S. air space. He has apparently dispatched an envoy (UAL spokesperson Robin Urbanski; new BFF of Dave but ... hmmm ... not Jeremy) to her Majesty, the Queen of England and Canada and elsewhere, to formally request that she (the Queen) constrain her citizenry from pestering the corporate royalty of the United States' formerly preeminent airline. -- Ed. ;-) ]

United Breaks Guitars, Song 2: Ms. Irlweg! Come To Your Senses!

Dave Carroll, he of great YouTube fame for shaming the dysfunctional and heartless United Airlines with a viral hit about how the airline broke his guitar, has released Song 2 of the trilogy he promised in July. In this video, we meet Ms. Irlweg, a girl-next-door hottie, who Dave imagines that he might pair up with, if only she would approve the reimbursement from United for his busted Taylor. Like the first song, the tune is catchy, though way different. It’s the kind of music that could only come from a Canadian — kind of a cross between honky-tonk and Biergarten tuba, with a little New Orleans flavor. I call it “tuba-tonky:”
